Odds and ends!

I’m so very glad to see the cooperation between Belize and Taiwan, which seems as strong as ever, with DPM Cordel Hyde’s visit to that brave island nation last week! It shows that we can’t be bought, hopefully, by promises of economic growth by the other China, that oppresses its own people, and tries to suppress dissent against them from within the countries that they are supposedly helping. All Taiwan wants is to be left alone and to prosper in a free and democratic society!

I am very happy to see the government of Belize chastising and criticizing Israel for its genocidal actions against the people of Gaza, and the West Bank! This is a period in history for which when we look back, the world will hang its collective head in shame, for doing little or nothing to step in and end this pogrom! Israel should be ashamed of itself, especially after all they have suffered through centuries of oppression, discrimination, and elimination! Hopefully, Netanyahu and his racist, fascist government, will pay for their crimes against humanity! The reason I can’t stand religion is because so-called Christians condone this genocide in Gaza, to fulfill some Biblical prophecy? Wat a ting.

I’m very concerned about the Belize government’s action when it comes to the Stake Bank issue. I am not familiar with all the intricacies, but I will side with those who are immediately affected by some multinational corporation taking over Mike Feinstein’s dream. I used to tutor Mike when he was a skinny kid in high school, so I’m a little biased in his favor. I will always side with Belizeans who are trying to improve our economy, keeping our money at home while they themselves prosper. I will always refer to Mexico and their policies of not allowing foreign corporations to do whatever they want in their country – 50/50 partnership, or get lost! Keep di money at home, not in Swiss banks!

I am disappointed by the Senate hearings where transparency was being denied regarding the affairs of the country. Anything that has to do with development, anything that has to do with the economy, the welfare of Belize, should not be state secret; after all, we are the State, each and every one of us! Nuclear or military issues should be protected and guarded, but not anything that affects the day-to-day routine of governance!

I was going to say my piece about the UDP fiasco, but what else can be said as they drown in their own mini coups and machismo and indecisions? The PUP should not interfere or try to intervene. In 10 or so years, they (the UDP) will come back en force and en masse and compete once again as a political party! What a mess.

I’m very concerned about the legalization of weed in Belize. When I see the incredible tax income from that tubumbu industry in the US, it boggles the mind that weed legislation is being held up by the same people who are breaking all of the religious laws they purport to uphold. Legalize the damn thing! Contrary to misinformation about weed and its effects, more people would mellow out and get a good night’s sleep. And it would decrease crime considerably! My 2 cents.

Anyway, I’m wandering with my thoughts late into the night! Hopefully, my concerns coincide with those of the majority of all those who love our beloved Jewel. Our oasis, our haven, our country! Blessed and growing and hopefully always moving forward, free and democratic!
