Ladyville Technical High School boys – Northern Regional male softball champions
The Ladyville Technical High School (LTHS) girls and boys both won the Northern Regional softball championships, with each team winning both their games against their zone rivals from Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico (ESTM) and San Pedro High School, respectively, at the Sandhill Softball Stadium on Saturday, March 8.
In Game 1 Saturday morning, LTHS pitcher Naire Sosa struck out 3 batters, and walked 2, giving up only one hit as she led the Ladyville girls to a 14-2 win by mercy rule in 3 innings over Escuela Mexico. The Ladyville girls collected 10 hits off Escuela’s pitcher, Leilany Reyes, who struck out one batter, but walked 5; while the ESTM diamond made 8 errors, allowing 14 runs to score.
In Game 2, the Ladyville boys won, 5-1, over the Escuela boys, led by pitcher Kymanie Flowers who gave up only one hit, as he struck out 6 batters and walked 3. The Ladyville boys collected 6 hits off ESTM pitcher, Eiden Pinelo, who struck out 10 batters and walked one.
In Game 3 on Saturday afternoon, the San Pedro High School (SPHS) Sharks won, 19-6, by mercy rule in 3 innings over the Escuela girls. The Sharks collected 8 hits off Leilany Reyes’ pitching; she struck out 3 batters, but also walked 8. The Escuela diamond also made 9 errors, allowing 19 runs to score. SPHS pitcher Miley Chi struck out 5 batters, but walked 5; however, Escuela still only scored 6 runs.
In Game 4, the SPHS Sharks won, 10-6, over the Escuela boys, led by pitcher Allen Ramirez who allowed only one hit, struck out 11 batters, but walked 9. The Sharks collected 7 hits off pitcher Eiden Pinelo, who struck out 8 batters and walked 3.
In Game 5 on Saturday evening, LTHS pitcher Naire Sosa led the Ladyville girls to an 18-1 win over the San Pedro girls. They collected 5 hits off SPHS pitcher Kass Maibauer, who struck out 3 batters, but walked 8. The SPHS diamond made 8 errors, allowing 18 runs to score.
Game 6 in Saturday’s nightcap saw the Ladyville boys win, 6-1, over the SPHS boys, as pitcher Kymanie Flowers gave up one hit, as he struck out 9 batters and walked one; only Brandon Quijano scored for the Sharks. SPHS Allen Ramirez allowed only one hit, as he struck out 11 batters, but walked 7.
The Ladyville girls and boys will now present the Northern zone at the upcoming National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) softball championships to be hosted by the Toledo Community College at the Victor Sanchez Stadium in Punta Gorda on Friday and Saturday, March 21-22.
