The Yo Creek United, San Estevan SC, Guinea Grass FC, Progresso FC and San Jose Pumas all enjoyed big wins when the Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) 1st Division Amateur 2024-2025 Closing Season tournament kicked off with 6 games at the Louisiana Government School football field over the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9.

In Game 1, Saturday evening, the San Jose Pumas drilled August Pine Ridge Central, 2-0, with goals by Oscar Castaneda and Moses West.

In Game 2 in Saturday’s nightcap, Andre Ramirez’s late brace (88’ & 89’) salvaged a 4-4 draw for the Sandy Field Wolverines with the Trial Farm Legends, for whom Nazim Aldana (4’) struck first. The Wolverines’ Moises Manzur (15’) equalized, 1-1, but Daniel Grijalva’s brace (27’ & 85’) and another goal by Michael Rivas (83’) had given the Legends a 4-2 lead after they had suffered an auto-goal (78’) by Darrell. Ramirez’s late brace salvaged the 4-4 draw for Wolverines.

On Sunday morning in Game 1, the San Estevan Soccer Team dropped the L.A. Tigers, 2-0, with goals by Kaydraun Cadle (30’) and Adimael Patt (37’).

In Game 2, Delbert Diego’s brace (3’ & 51’) led Guinea Grass FC to a 4-0 victory over Crystal FC, with another goal from Sonny Wade (14’). Crystal defender Japheth Mendez (58’) blundered in sending the ball into his own net.

In Game 3, Progresso FC enjoyed a 2-0 win over San Jose FC, with an early goal by Raheim Herbert (5’) and a gifted second goal when San Jose’s defender Diego Carcamo (60’) accidentally deflected the ball into his own net.

In Game 4 in Sunday’s nightcap, Axel Alamilla’s hat trick (3’, 8’ & 41’) led Yo Creek United to a 3-2 win over Mi Gente FC of Guinea Grass, for whom Mark Bainton scored a brace (11’ & 24’).
