BELIZE CITY, Wed. May 24, 2023

A pleasant time of the day to all cricket enthusiasts!
Especially to those who humbly take time out to read my column in the Amandala. Some met me and congratulated me in bringing the game right before their eyes. I was told, “I ONLY BUY THE AMANDALA TO READ ABOUT CRICKET.” Sounds like music to my ears. Although the games are already played, reading the article made them feel as though the game is playing at that very moment, and they are enjoying it. To you all I say, “THANK YOU VERY MUCH!”

Under the auspices of the Belize National Cricket Association, the Barry Bowen/Harrison Parks Cricket Competition 2023 continues. Last weekend’s games, although just a few were played, all who witnessed them were satisfied. Well, maybe not all, because the losers might not be too happy. But that’s sports. Some lost, some won. Both teams can’t win at the same time. If any games are ended in a draw or tie, then points are shared. So, let’s see what happened on the field of play.

On Saturday at Rancho, Golden Eagles lost again, this time to Brave 11 Reloaded, 94 to 54. For Brave 11 Reloaded, Rushane Flowers scored 42, and Sherman McCulloch, 13, while Javaughn Dawson took 4 wickets. For Golden Eagles, Lindell Pook scored 11, while Garett Joseph and Percival Chick Joseph took 3 wickets each. Javaughn Dawson was named Man of that Match.

Wicked 11 defeated Excellence, 163 to 126. For Excellence, Tayshawn Flowers and Ian Broaster scored 33 and 31, respectively; and Orson Flowers took 5 wickets. For Wicked 11, Keon Robinson scored 61, and Marlon Flowers took 3 wickets. Marlon Flowers was named Man of that Match.

A very exciting game was played between Long Journey and Rising Star. Rising took to bat first and scored 116, with Delmar Ferguson and Taylor Vaccaro scoring 28 and 27, respectively. Long Journey took to bat then, and at the fall of 9 wickets the score was beaten. Jamal Shaw scored 28 and took 3 wickets. Leslie Moody took 6 wickets and was named Man of that Match. Andy Dominguez took 6 of the Journey’s wickets.

The only game on Sunday was between Summa Feva and Sunrise in which Sunrise lost the match. Sunrise took to bat first, and under the heavy bowling of Andrew Banner, Jr. and Maurice Castillo, who each took 3 wickets, Sunrise reached 112, with Sunil Wadhwini scoring 40. Summa Feva took to bat then, and at the fall of 2 wickets the score of Sunrise was beaten, with Gareth Banner, Jr. scoring 41.

I stand to be corrected, but these are point leaders in the competition so far. For Level One – BDF, Summa Feva, Wicked 11, and Surprise. For Level Two – St. Paul’s Strikers, Tropical Disturbance, Brave 11 Reloaded, Weekend Warriors and Golden Eagles. Again, I stand to be corrected. Why I emphasize on that is I am not clear on points that were shared, and there are many.

The following matches are scheduled for this weekend, if all goes well:

On Saturday – BDF vs Summa Feva at Landing; Wicked 11 vs Surprise at Lemonal; Progressive vs Brave Union Boys at Boom; St. Paul’s Strikers vs Brave 11 Reloaded at Willows; Tropical Disturbance vs Rising Star at Sandhill; and Weekend Warriors vs Long Journey at Gardenia.

On Sunday – Excellence vs Sunrise at Lords Bank.

That’s all for now, folks. I pray that you take advantage of the love and respect going around at these games. Let’s go out on Saturday and Sunday and enjoy a fun filled cricket weekend! Bye Bye!
