Lewis Tillet had just exited the credit union with $2,000

BELIZE CITY, Wed. Oct. 2, 2019– This evening police announced that Aaron Munnings, 22, has been charged with the robbery of Lewis Tillett, 90, who was mercilessly shoved off his bicycle and robbed of $2,000 at about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon after he had exited the St. John’s Credit Union on Basra Street.

Tillett was riding away from the credit union when he was accosted by the thief. The entire robbery was captured on security cameras mounted in the area.

Footage showed the robber punching the senior citizen, and stealing the money out of his pocket after he shoved him off his bicycle.

After he stole the money, the robber then ran into the adjoining street, West Street, and disappeared.

Police who viewed the camera footage of the incident were able to identify the shameless thief and he has been detained, pending charges of aggravated robbery. The police said the thief is also a suspect in a murder that occurred in a yard at Mile 4 on the Philip Goldson Highway in August, and they had been actively searching for him for questioning.

On the footage, Tillett can be seen riding away from the credit union on Basra Street, towards South Street, when a man in a black shirt, who was on the left side of the street , walked up to him and shoved him off the bike.

The footage showed that after robbing Tillett, the thief ran away. The footage also showed a security guard walking slowly, in an unconcerned manner, toward the victim, who was seen sitting on the street trying to gather himself near his bicycle.

During the regular police press brief held this morning at the Raccoon Street Police Station, Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero said that police are trying to find out if there were other collaborators with the thief in the robbery of the elderly man.

The latest information to us this evening is that Tillett was not injured, but does not want to make any comment to the media.
