This morning, 167 industrious pupils of the Anglican Cathedral College in Belize City were presented with merit awards to encourage their continued quest for excellence in education and to inspire other students to achieve better grades in school.
Karen Bailey, chair of the awards committee, said that the primary purpose of the event is to highlight those who placed first and second in the various subject areas.
The awardees include 53 honor roll students who have maintained an average of 80 and above, and who have managed to pass every subject they take. Apart from receiving special honor cards, they will also receive pins with their portrait.
The school acknowledged the students who placed top at their level, including the student with the highest grade in the entire school – first form student, Andre Garbutt, who scored an average of 92.5. The other top performers were 4th former Tessa Wells, 3rd former Edgar Lopez, and 2nd former Shajira Del Cid.
Top speller, Keaton Young, who beat his peers in the February 23 to 27 spelling competition, also received an award today.
The students were also presented with gifts donated by the Anglican Diocese and staff, as well as Galaxy Store.
