BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Mar. 14, 2019– The Ahmadiyya Basketball League, (ABL) traveled deep south over the weekend to give an opportunity to the U-23 teams from that region an opportunity to play in front of their home fans.  Following are the results from the ABL’s “Southern Classic” games played on Sunday, March 10, and Monday, March 11.

On Sunday at the Russell Chiste Garcia Auditorium in Dangriga, it was Dangriga Warriors over Hopkins Invaders, 73-65, in overtime. For Griga – Raheem Thurton 26 pts 4 rebs 1 asst, and Howard Arzu 10 pts 7 rebs 2 blks; and for Hopkins – Nayib Casimiro 19 pts 3 rebs 1 blk 1 stl, and Kirk Castillo 14 pts.

On Monday at the Toledo Sports Complex in Punta Gorda Town, 2 games were played. In the opener, Hopkins Invaders won over PG Panthers in overtime, 73-68. For Hopkins – Robert Nunez 19 pts 4 rebs 1 stl, and Nayib Casimiro 18 pts 4 rebs 1 blk; and for PG – Arik Nicolas 36 pts 9 rebs 1 blk, and Delmore Santino 12 pts 7 rebs.  And in the nightcap, it was Dangriga Warriors over PG Panthers, 51-45. For Dangriga – Raheem Thurton 18 pts 6 rebs 2 stls, and Quinton Bowen 12 pts; and for PG – Vashahn Castillo 13 pts, and Delmore Santino 10 pts 10 rebs 1 asst.

The winner of the Southern Classic is Dangriga Warriors, who now leads the standings with a record of 6-1.
