BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Sept. 8, 2022
The scores remain low at the completion of Week 6 in the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2022-2023 Opening Season. Two games each were played on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, and no team scored more than 2 goals.
On Saturday night, September 3, at the Ambergris Stadium, San Pedro Pirates FC gained the 2-1 win over Benque FC; while at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, Port Layola from Belize City got a lucky goal from a Bandits goalkeeper error, and held on for the 1-0 road victory against Bandits SC, who showed good ball movement and signs of a promising future though still winless at the bottom of the standings.
On Sunday afternoon, September 4, Altitude FC held on to their position at the top of the standings with a 2-1 victory at the M.A. Stadium in Independence against the upstart young Progresso FC squad from Orange Walk. Meanwhile, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, reigning national champs Verdes FC almost saw their unbeaten streak tarnished by home standing Wagiya SC, but a brilliant late strike by Trimayne “Peppa” Harris, coming off the bench for Verdes, salvaged the 2-2 draw.
(Apologies for our Week 5 standings last week showing Bandits with 1 win instead of 1 draw.)
The ball continues rolling with a full schedule of PLB Week 7 games this Tenth weekend.
