BELIZE CITY, Mon. Apr. 15, 2024

Belizean boxing phenom, Amir Rudon has been making a name for himself in the local and regional boxing circuit with every fight as he adds one more win to his undefeated streak after defeating Mexican boxer, Ruben Reyes, on Saturday night, April 13, in San Pedro Town.

Rudon holds the title of National Lightweight Champion of Belize, which he claimed in November of last year from Mexican national Gaspar “Tremendo” Gomez.

The fight on Saturday was scheduled to go six rounds at the Rafael Angel Nunez Auditorium in San Pedro; however, boxing fans young and old got their money’s worth as Rudon finished his opponent in the first round by TKO.

“It ended early by stoppage in the first round; it was a TKO over the Mexican,” said Rudon. “I saw [a video] of a fight of my opponent, and I saw certain things that he did, and I worked on it in preparation. When I went in there, the plan was to feel him out first, and slowly start to pick it up as the fight went on round by round. But, in the first round, I landed a left hook to the body and I saw his facial reaction when the punch landed, and that was a shot that he felt. So, after realizing that he was hurt, I went and landed the shot again – in a different way – so I went for a third attempt in landing the shot, and I did and he went down,” Rudon told Amandala.

He further told Amandala that when his opponent was knocked down in the ring, he was excited about what brought him down, and also, a measure of eagerness kicked in to see if he’d remain on the floor or get back on his feet.

“You’re eager to see if your opponent will make the count or not, because that is when you decide if you want to apply more pressure to get him out of there immediately, or if you strategically play it safe until the opportunity presents itself to take attempt in going for the knockout,” he said.

Despite his victory over the weekend, Rudon is already back in the gym preparing for his next match which comes up within a few months.

Rudon has a record of 7-0.
