Anthony Matura, 18, a resident of Ladyville, is dead tonight as a consequence of a single stab wound to the chest in the area of his heart. The family gave an initial time to Amandala of 4:30 p.m. when they received a call telling them that Matura was killed.
Matura’s father and older brother spoke to us near the morgue at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and both said that they didn’t have much information about the incident; the only thing they told us is that Anthony Matura was in Ladyville at the time. They both were grieving and understandably, they were not forthcoming with information.
They did confirm, though, that the doctor at the morgue showed them the body and they saw a stab wound.
Amandala spoke via phone to Police Press Officer, Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, who told us that the police went two streets away from the Ladyville Police Station, where they found the body, and it was transported to the morgue. Police await the post-mortem results as their investigation continues.
Unconfirmed reports are that Matura was with an associate of a south-side gang, and a rival gang member got wind of their location. Details are sketchy, but we were told that an incident took place between Matura and the associate, and the rival gang member, whereupon Matura was stabbed as a result, and his assailant fled the scene.
This comes as a severe blow to the Matura family, because they recently lost another brother, Glenford Matura, who was gunned down on March 10, 2010.
Matura’s father told us that he can’t get too emotional or agitated, because he recently had a brush with death due to a heart attack, and that he doesn’t want to trigger another attack.
