Chinese businessman, Yu Huan Yang, 33, of Vernon Street, Belize City, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison after he allegedly attacked an employee of Nando’s Wholesale Warehouse with a metal pipe and opened fire at him.

Yu Huan Yang, 33, a Chinese businessman who resides on Vernon Street in Belize City, has been accused of injuring Marlon Gutierrez, an employee of Nando’s Wholesale Warehouse, with a metal pipe and repeatedly firing shots at him, last Wednesday, November 16.

According to reports, Gutierrez, a warehouse assistant, was at his place of employment at Mile 1 ½ on the George Price Highway when Yang approached him with a metal pipe and allegedly attacked him for no reason.

Yang attempted to strike Gutierrez over the head with the metal pipe, but Gutierrez reportedly blocked the hit with his hands. However, Yang continued his assault. Gutierrez then hurried away from the scene into the warehouse, and at that point Yang allegedly fired a single shot in his direction. According to Gutierrez, when he turned around he allegedly saw Yang armed with a firearm, and Yang fired another shot at him, which missed. He then got into a taxi and filed a report at the police station.

When police officers got to the scene, they found an expended 9-millimeter shell and the pipe that Yang allegedly used to attack Gutierrez. They also obtained security camera footage from the warehouse.

Yang was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault and wounding, and was arraigned that same day.

He was denied bail due to the nature of the offense and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until December 20, when he must appear in court again.
