GeneralBelama residents charged for Orange Walk home invasion

SAN JOSE, Orange Walk District, Tues. Sept. 8, 2020– An investigation into the armed invasion of the home of Maria Vasquez, 42, in San Jose, at about 3:00 Friday morning, led to the arrest of Honduran national Karin Ramirez, 33, of Belama, Belize City.

She has been charged with handling stolen goods and keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license.

Also arrested was Francisco Rodriguez, 28, of Belama, who was charged with aggravated burglary and handling stolen goods.

Police say that they are looking for one more suspect in connection with the home invasion.
Ramirez and Rodriguez have been detained pending arraignment for the offences in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court.

Maria Vasquez told police that she was sleeping in her house along with her three children when at about 3:00 Friday morning, she was awakened from her sleep by three persons who were standing by her bed.

She and her children were tied up, and the robbers demanded money. They then ransacked her home, after which they took three cell phones, $150 cash and a wristwatch.

ACP Joseph Myvett of the Police Department said Ramirez had been staying at a house near to Vasquez’s home, and her house was searched in the city, where the phones, the gun and the bullets were found. The phones were identified as belonging to Vasquez.

The thieves gained entry into Vasquez’s house by damaging a rear window and forcing it open.
