Belize Ambassador to Washington suffers heart attack

HeadlineBelize Ambassador to Washington suffers heart attack

BELIZE CITY, Mon. May 20, 2019– Amandala has been reliably informed that Belize Ambassador to Washington, HE Ambassador Daniel Gutierrez, has suffered a heart attack and is recovering, although we were unable to confirm if he is recovering at home or if he has been hospitalized.

When we called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Belmopan today to get an update on our Ambassador’s condition, we were told that the matter is a private matter and the Ministry would not issue any comment.

We pointed out to the person on the line that the Ambassador is being paid from the public purse, and as such, the public has a right to know the current status of his condition.

We were advised that we could call the Embassy in Washington, and were given the number to call.

Gutierrez took up the post of Belize Ambassador to Washington in July 2017, replacing HE Pat Andrews, who was appointed Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition to being Belize’s Ambassador to Washington, Gutierrez is also Belize’s Ambassador to the Organization of American States.
