The Belize City Mayor’s Cup tournament adjusted its schedule a bit to accommodate the Independence Day celebrations, but there was still a full package of Week 2 games played over the weekend at the MCC Grounds, starting on Thursday night, September 19.
In the only game played on Thursday night, Ebony Lake dropped Complex Admirals, 4-2, with goals coming from Andy Arana (48’), David Robateau (55’) and Carlos Lino (70’ & 85’). Complex got their two goals from Gilbert Gomez (19’) and Lincoln Roches (73’).
The opener on Friday night, September 20, saw Third World FC crushing Kulture Yabra, 5-1, with former Toledo star Kenton Galvez blasting 4 goals for Third World (5’, 24’, 52’ & 55’), and the other goal coming from Aston Lewis (88’). The lone tally for Kulture was by Edward Rubion (28’). The nightcap was another one-sided affair, as Fort George United bombed Ladyville United FC, 7-2. Jahron Myvette netted a hat trick (14’, 59’ & 65’) for the winners, with teammates Henry Gillett (22’), Francisco Briceno (40’), Marlon Clarke (75’) and Thomas Castro (89’) adding 1 apiece; while Ladyville got a goal from David Ramos (16’) and also benefited from a Fort George own goal by Giovanni Jeffreys (OG-82’).
After a break for Independence Day, the football action resumed on Sunday night, September 22, at the MCC with Old Road Arsenal coming away with a 3-2 win over West Lake, courtesy of a goal each by Charlie Cantun (11’), Thedran Reid (57’) and Delwin Jones (68’). Wayne Miller struck twice for West Lake (4’ & 40’) in a losing effort. In the nightcap, after a scoreless first half, Tulish FC got an early second half goal from Brandon Cacho (49’), but Luis Gongora (85’) equalized late for Caye Caulker Tsunami, to end the hostilities deadlocked at 1-1.
Leading “goaleadors” in the young tournament are: Kenton Galvez (Third World) and Wayne Miller (West Lake) with 4 goals each; Jahron Myvette (Fort George United) and Brian Martinez (Caye Caulker Tsunami) tied at 3 apiece; and 4 players tied with 2 goals, namely Kevin Lino (Fort George United), Patrick Gomez (Complex Admirals), David Robateau (Ebony Lake) and Carlos Lino (Ebony Lake).
