Belize City Police foil attackers’ getaway plan

HeadlineBelize City Police foil attackers’ getaway plan

BELIZE CITY, Sun. Oct 10, 2021– On Sunday, October 10, two people were shot in the Bootsville area of Belize City near Neal Pen Road. They are currently being treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for resulting injuries.

Initial reports suggest that sometime before 4 p.m., Rudolph Serrano, 17, and Kenyon Cherrington, 22, were socializing in a yard on Fabers Road Extension, when two male persons exited a white Dodge van and fired several shots towards them – injuring them both.

The gunmen then scurried back into the van, and drove away from the area. Police, who were nearby when the shots were fired, set after the getaway vehicle and pursued it through the streets of Southside Belize City.

Surveillance systems saw the culprits skillfully driving the van, and making a 180-degree turn. The occupants of the van exited and ran off, with a swarm of police units in hot pursuit. There was a shootout between the suspects and the police on the corner of Jane Usher Boulevard and Central American Boulevard, a crossfire which ended with the apprehension of one of suspects.

That suspect was a 21-year-old male, who was seriously wounded in the shooting. He fled to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) following his injuries, where personnel from the police department identified him as one of the men involved in the crime. He is currently being monitored by police forces.

The police are seeking two minors, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, who they believe abetted in the Bootsville shooting and were involved in a series of other crimes. The police department is hopeful that after an investigation into the matter is done charges will be levied against the suspect in custody, and his apprehension will assist in locating his two accomplices who fled the scene.
