BELIZE CITY–The Belize City Primary Schools Basketball Tournament, being coordinated by the National Sports Council, entered its playoff stage on Thursday of last week, and the male semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, at Bird’s Isle.

In games played last week Tuesday, January 13, (M) St. Ignatius defeated James Garbutt SDA, 33-11, with Glenford Bermudez leading St. Ignatius with 11 pts, while Ralston Menzies had 4 pts for James Garbutt. (F) St. Luke Methodist won, 6-1, over St. John’s Anglican. Khia Leslie netted 4 pts for St. Luke, while Taliyah Hyde got the sole pt for St. John’s. And (M) St. Joseph demolished St. John’s Anglican, 35-2. Justin Williams and Daemion Garcia had 8 pts each for St. Joseph, while Levan Tillett got the 2 pts for St. John’s.

Thursday, January 15, saw the last 2 regular season games, and the first game in the playoffs. (F) Holy Redeemer won, 8-4, over Belize Elementary. Wareyni Gillett scored 6 pts for Holy Redeemer, while Allyana Musa had 3 pts for Belize Elementary. (M) Belize Elementary clipped James Garbutt SDA, 17-9, behind 10 pts from Alexander Ariola, while Kylon Thurton had 5 pts for James Garbutt. And in the first game of the playoffs, (M) it was St. John Vianney over St. Joseph, 23-17, with T-Dee Cattouse leading St. John Vianney with 9 pts, and Michael Welch scoring 9 pts for St. Joseph.

Two female (F) and two male (M) playoff games were played on Friday. In a low scoring affair, (F) Holy Redeemer edged St. Luke Methodist, 4-2. Yu Ting Li netted all 4 pts for Holy Redeemer, while Samantha Foreman accounted for St. Luke’s 2 pts. (F) Belize Elementary clipped Buttonwood Bay Nazarene, 9-3, with Allyana Musa top scoring with 9 pts for Belize Elementary, while Cindy Allen got all 3 pts for Buttonwood Bay Naz. (M) Wesley Upper won, 25-18, over Belize Elementary. Talib Bradley led all scorers with 17 pts for Wesley, while Michael Castillo had 7 pts for Belize Elementary. And (M) it was St. Ignatius with the 26-15 win over St. Luke Methodist. Tariq Pascascio led St. Ignatius with 8 pts, while Justin Menzies had 9 pts for St. Luke.

The first round of playoffs ended today with (M) Holy Redeemer defeating James Garbutt SDA, 21-14. Justin Gentle had 9 pts for Holy Redeemer, and Kylon Thurton had 5 pts for James Garbutt.

The male (M) semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday.

Tuesday, January 20, semifinals
1:15 p.m. – (M) Wesley Upper vs St. John Vianney
1:40 p.m. – (M) St. Ignatius vs Holy Redeemer
