Belize volleyball females at CA Youth Championship in Guatemala

The Belize Youth Female National Volleyball Team is presently in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where they are participating in the Central American U-18 (actually a U-16) Female Volleyball Championship this week.

Led by coach Lupita Quan and manager Nellita Bradley, and assisted by Sherlene Johnson and Jose Tun, members of the team are Allyana Musa, Karen Quan, Kayla Burrowes, Juel Lewis, Nayala Tun, Mya Musa, Zakiya Young, Karina Bernard, Kori Diego, Kandyce Burn, and Kevanna Sebastian. Referee Bruce Coleman is also accompanying the team.

Playing a game each day, Team Belize presently sports a 1-2 record, having defeated El Salvador and lost to Honduras and Guatemala.

On Monday, Belize took a 2 set lead, but ended up losing (2 sets to 3) to Honduras, 25-21, 25-17, 18-25, 15-25, 9-15. Team Belize was led by 6-foot tall Kevanna Sebastian with 16 points (7 blocks, 6 kills, 3 aces). Kori Diego and Mya Musa added 8 and 7 points, respectively.

Belize bounced back on Tuesday with a 3 sets to 1 victory over El Salvador, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19. Kevanna Sebastian led Team Belize with 20 points (12 kills, 8 blocks), and Maya Musa had 10 points (8 kills, 2 aces).

Yesterday, Wednesday, Belize lost in straight sets to host Guatemala, 25-21, 25-14, 25-18. Mya Musa led Belize with 8 points (6 kills, 1 block, 1 ace) and Kevanna Sebastian had 7 points (4 kills, 3 blocks).

Today, Thursday, Belize is scheduled to play Nicaragua at 3:00 p.m.
