Belize’s Jaguars in dangerof relegation to League C

SportsBelize’s Jaguars in dangerof relegation to League C

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Nov. 2, 2023

Belize’s Jaguars, its male senior national football team is in last place in League B Group C in the Concacaf Nations League and struggling to keep its hopes of not being relegated to League C alive.

Belize has a date with destiny when it plays against French Guiana, its 5th game in the tournament, on Friday, November 17, at the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) Stadium in Belmopan, and it is a game we cannot afford to lose.

The tournament’s organizers have made it clear: “League B: Group winners will be promoted to League A, and fourth-place finishers will be relegated to League C.”

French Guiana (2-1-1, 7 points) leads Group C, followed by St. Vincent (2-0-2, 6 points), and Bermuda (1-2-1, 5 points), with Belize trailing with a single win, a draw and 2 losses for a total of 4 points.

Another loss by Belize would just about eliminate the Jaguars’ chances of escaping the fourth and last place.

Belize is scheduled to complete group play against St. Vincent and the Grenadines on November 21.

The Jaguars lost to St. Vincent, 2-1, in its first game on September 8, but defeated French Guiana, 2-0, on September 12, before losing, 1-0, to Bermuda at home in its third game in Group C play.

Belize’s male national team is currently ranked 29th in Concacaf behind Bermuda, ranked 21st, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines ranked 28th, but ahead of French Guiana who are ranked 30th.
