Bishop Dorick Wright laid to rest

GeneralBishop Dorick Wright laid to rest

BELIZE CITY, Wed. Apr. 22, 2020– Bishop Dorick Wright, 74, Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Church of Belize, was laid to rest this morning after a funeral ceremony was held for him at the Holy Redeemer Cathedral.

Bishop Lawrence Nicasio, of Dangriga, was the celebrant. After the funeral, Bishop Wright’s coffin was taken to an area behind the cathedral, where he was entombed. The ceremony and burial were witnessed by just a handful of persons, due to safety regulations dictated by Government in response to the dreaded COVID-19. These regulations include a prohibition against more than 10 persons gathering in any place.

The services were held in Holy Redeemer Cathedral

The grand state funeral befitting a stellar figure such as the Bishop Emeritus was missing.

Before the funeral ceremony, Bishop Wright’s remains were transported from the morgue in a motorcade, which passed five Catholic churches in the city: Divine Mercy Church, located on the Philip Goldson Highway; St. Joseph Church, located on Simon Lamb Street; St. John Vianney Church, located on Fabers Road; St Ignatius Church, located on Basra Street; and finally, Holy Redeemer Cathedral, where he was ordained 45 years ago.
