The first half was scoreless out here at the MCC Grounds in game 2 of the best of three finals series between Plaza and Kulture for the BPFL 2008-09 Over-35 championship. Plaza had won the first match 1-0, but it was no series clincher for them tonight, as the second half was all Kulture, whose veteran star Norman “Tilliman” Pipersburg seemed none the wear from yesterday’s stint with Texmar Boys at the same venue, where he was instrumental in Texmar’s 4-0 drubbing of home standing Kraal Road in the Super League playoffs. Tonight, it was Plaza’s turn to be disciplined by the veteran, who struck twice for Kulture in the second half, on their way to a 3-0 win, aided by an own goal from Plaza’s Mark Gentle.
Plaza fans/critics commented that they only utilized one substitute until late in the match, whereas Kulture made good use of “fresh legs” from their bench. Even former Kulture Yabra sponsor Pawpa Brown saw some second half action for Kulture.
The fan turnout was surprisingly good for the veterans game, and the rivalry is strong. Before the game, Press Cadogan was offering bets for Kulture, but Plaza declined.
With the series now knotted at one game apiece, the 3rd and deciding finals match is scheduled for next Monday night, February 16, at the MCC at 7:30 p.m.
