Brown Bombers hosts youth football competition

SportsBrown Bombers hosts youth football competition
Brown Bombers Foundation original members referee Wilhelm “England” White and semipro star Tyrone “T-Bone” Muschamp informed our sports desk this afternoon that the Foundation will be hosting a football competition for 14 & Under, and 17 & under footballers, starting at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday, September 26, at the MCC Grounds in Belize City.

A Marathon kicks off at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday, and thereafter, the regular competition will be played every Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. Team registration is FREE, as officiating will be done voluntarily by Foundation members Wilhelm White, Tyrone Muschamp, Marlon Clarke and Stanley “Jordan” Reneau.

Interested teams and potential Foundation sponsors can contact Tyrone Muschamp or Wilhelm White at 625-3002.

The competition is in memory of Sir George Brown who founded the team almost thirty years ago. According to T-Bone, Sir George, who died on July 26, 2007, had personally sent most of his recruited players, who were mostly disadvantaged kids, through primary and secondary school. The Brown Bombers club, which T-Bone joined from he was 8 years old, eventually travelled to participate in youth football competitions across the globe, including trips to Sweden twice, to Peru, Honduras, Guatemala and Salvador.

T-Bone says the Foundation is presently seeking help with the sponsorship of its program.

(Ed. Note: It has long been a mystery to those of us involved in sports, where Sir George found the resources, certainly not his mere judge’s salary, to finance the trips abroad for the Brown Bombers, a private club, which did not officially represent any football association in Belize as champions. Those Foundation sponsors have apparently dropped the ball with his passing.)
