Caesar Ridge FC, Kelly Street Bombers and Reggae Boyz all enjoyed big wins, when the Belize District Football Association (BDFA) 2024-2025 Closing Season 1st Division tournament continued in its 2nd week at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City on Saturday afternoon, April 12.
In Game 1, Caesar Ridge FC (CRFC) scored a 2-0 win over the Old Road Defenders, but it was a pyrrhic victory, as one of their players was lost for the rest of the season due to injury. Lloyd McKesey and Travis Heredia led the Old Road offensive, supported by Denroy McCord, Kevaughn Reyes, and Nelson Flores at midfield. Caesar Ridge defenders Francis Arana, Lawnie Leslie, Shemar Waight, and Barack Morey gave them short shrift to help goalkeeper Brian Leslie, Jr. shut out all attacks up to intermission.
CRFC coach Dave Burgess introduced Jacob Joseph after the break, and Joseph (58’) and Ajani Vaughn (66’) scored a goal each for the 2-0 win; but Vaughn dislocated his kneecap in a collision with Old Road’s goalkeeper Jamal Tillett, sidelining him for the rest of the season. Old Road’s Darren Leal, Augustine Smith and Kuyle Humes gave it their all, but could not stem the tide.
In Game 2, the Kelly Street Bombers enjoyed their first win, 3-0, over Hattieville United with goals by Delroy “Thinman” Andrews’ 35-yard free kick (22’), Steven “Bredds” Baizar’s header (51’), and Francis “Franco” Andrews (89’). Quince Briceño, Jalen Clother and Tyriq “Pippin” Muschamp pressed for more goals, and the village defenders Amaury Coc, Tarrique Belisle, Austin Valladares and Charles Belisle were hard put not to concede any more goals. Lebron Robinson and Flayden Carter tried to put the village squad on the scoreboard, with the help of midfielders Jaden “Cheetes” Macgregor, Milton Estrada and Antwone Smith. But the Kelly St. defenders Ryan Gill, Cameron “Tulu” Diego, Dylon Flores and Michael Bradley helped goalkeeper Gregory Fisher keep a clean slate. Adgar Adderly, Leon Gentle and Lemar Whyte came off the Bombers’ bench to keep the pressure on the village boys until the final whistle.
In Game 3, the Reggae Boyz handed the defending champions, Survivors FC, their 2nd loss, 1-0, when Harold Thompson (64’) headed in the winning goal. Survivors had a chance to get on the scoreboard first on a penalty kick that Troy Augustine dumped over the crossbar. Dejean Thompson led Reggae Boyz’ defense with Peter Morgan, Cory Perteau, Marco Nuñez and Clinton Dawson to help goalkeeper Edward Humes secure the 1-0 win.
