HOPKINS, Stann Creek District, Mon. Feb. 24, 2020– The search for James Slemp, 79, a Canadian national who was reported missing on Friday, came to a sad conclusion this morning. He was found dead, floating in a lagoon not far from his house on the Hopkins Road.
ACP Joseph Myvett of the Police Department said that foul play is suspected and they are now conducting a murder investigation and are looking for a man from the area who they believe can help the investigation.
Myvett said that Slemp’s friend went to the Hopkins Police Station and reported that he had been trying to contact his friend, but Slemp was not answering his phone and searches for him were fruitless. Police then began to search for him, and that search came to a conclusion with the horrible discovery. Myvett said that Slemp was seen with injuries in his back and head.
Slemp lived alone on his farm in an area on the Hopkins Road.
