COROZAL TOWN, Fri. Nov. 22, 2019– In August 2010, Carlos Jonathan Gibson, 28, a businessman of Alta Mira, Corozal, was busted with 45 pounds of cocaine in Santa Elena, Cayo District. He was traveling from the western border to Corozal Town when he was intercepted.
His vehicle was searched and the cocaine was found concealed in a manufactured compartment under the vehicle. Gibson was charged with drug trafficking and today, at his Supreme Court trial, he pleaded guilty to the offense.
His guilty plea was accepted and he was fined $25,000, to be paid by June 2020; if he fails to make the payment by that date, he will spend 3 years in jail. He was then released.
Police said that they were tracking the vehicle when it came across the western border from Melchor, Guatemala.
