Goodin told Amandala Wednesday that she is honored and excited to be in Belize, and she is enthusiastic about performing on Friday with Terry Hough and Lynn Young of Ludwig Studios; Carlos Perolte, Chris Jarnach, and Carlos Cush, a Guatemalan.

She explained that she had connected with three of these musicians?Hough, Cush and Jarnach?while she was with a friend in Guatemala in January, 2001. They were at a restaurant when her friend encouraged her to sing for the audience, and she ended up performing there for the entire week.

Goodin said that she has been performing since the age of 5 and has played in bars before it was legal for her to do so.

She said that she grew up listening to heavy metal/hard rock sounds of Led Zeplin. Later, she was influenced by great female songbirds such as the ?First Lady of Song,? Ella Fitzgerald; ?rock-and-roll hall of famer? Bonnie Raitt, and Julia Fordham, an English artist who is described as having a smoky, jazz bar, low dulcet voice. Together, these and other influential artists helped Goodin to eventually acquire a taste for Latin jazz and funk music.

Now, she is a mother, full-time, a massage therapist by day and a musician by night, and she has recorded five albums to date.

Goodin explained that jazz music provides such a wide platform for her as performer, and she described the Belizean group that she has been lined up to perform with on Friday as ?a cradle? where she could explore her notes.

Goodin, who is in Belize with her only child, Philip Vudis, is scheduled to depart the country on Saturday, November 6. This is her first visit to Belize, and so she is also taking the opportunity to tour the country a bit. She has already visited Xunantunich and Altun Ha, and she intends to go snorkeling on Wednesday evening.

Her impressions of Belize so far: ?It?s absolutely beautiful! The people are so gracious and so warm,? she told us.

She notes that driving here has been a challenge for her, and the speed bumps have given her a hell of a time.
