City champions, Belize Elementary girls and Holy Redeemer boys are National Primary Schools Volleyball Champions

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Nov. 15, 2019– The National Primary Schools Volleyball Championship 2019-2020 was hosted today at the Belize Civic Center and Stars Gym in Belize City, and it featured the 6 female and 6 male primary school district champions.

Participating female and male district champion primary schools from their respective districts were:

Females – Belize Elementary (Belize); San Marcos RC (Cayo); Louisiana Gov’t (Orange Walk); Mary Hill RC (Corozal); Holy Angel’s RC (Stann Creek); and San Felipe Gov’t (Toledo).

Males – Holy Redeemer RC (Belize); St. Joseph RC (Cayo); Chan Pine Ridge (Orange Walk); Church of Christ (Corozal); St. Matthews Anglican (Stann Creek); and San Felipe Gov’t (Toledo).

After a first round of competition where each team played 2 games, the top 4 female (F) and top 4 male (M) teams moved on to the knockout semifinals, with the following results:

Semifinal results

(F) San Marcos RC defeated Louisiana Gov’t 25-11, 26-24; and Belize Elementary def. Mary Hill RC, 25-8, 25-10. (M) St. Matthews Anglican def. Chan Pine Ridge, 25-16, 25-14; and Holy Redeemer def. St. Joseph RC, 25-13, 25-17.

Consolation Matches

(F) Louisiana Gov’t def. Mary Hill RC, 25-22, 25-12. (M) Chan Pine Ridge def. St. Joseph RC, 25-21, 25-23.

Championship Matches

(F) Belize Elementary def. San Marcos RC, 25-19, 25-15; and (M) Holy Redeemer def. St. Matthews Anglican, 25-13, 25-7.

FINAL STANDINGS

Final standings in the tournaments were therefore:

Females: 1st Place – Belize Elementary (Belize); 2nd Place – San Marcos RC (Cayo); and 3rd Place – Louisiana Gov’t (Orange Walk).

Males: 1st Place – Holy Redeemer RC (Belize); 2nd Place – St. Matthews Anglican (Stann Creek); and 3rd Place – Chan Pine Ridge (Orange Walk).

Female MVP was #2 Gisel Alamilla of Belize Elementary (Belize); and Male MVP was #8 Hayden Requena of Holy Redeemer RC (Belize).
