Cops want ex-BNE director, Sheila McCaffrey, for questioning on alleged theft

GeneralCops want ex-BNE director, Sheila McCaffrey, for questioning on alleged theft
Sheila McCaffrey, a founding director of the petroleum producing company, Belize Natural Energy Limited (BNE), is wanted pending investigation of a report of theft made last week.

According to the police, Jane Longsworth, finance and accounting manager for BNE, reported that the company discovered that between September 30, 2008, and January 2, 2009, McCaffery had tendered 21 cheques totaling $19,096 to various businesses in Placencia, Stann Creek District. McCaffery was only a director up to September 16, 2008. Longsworth told police that the ex-director was not authorized to make those payments.

When Amandala attempted to contact Longsworth at BNE offices in Belmopan today, we were informed that Ms. Longsworth was out of the office. We were told to leave a message and she would return our calls. Two more attempts this afternoon netted the same response.

This evening, BNE’s chief executive officer, Dr. Gilbert Canton, could not be reached by phone for comment.

We understand that Ms. McCaffrey was seen recently at an event in Belize.
