BELIZE CITY, Mon. Nov. 23, 2020– Government’s infographic on COVID-19 today, Monday, indicates that 4 more persons have died, all in the Corozal District.

A total of 252 samples were processed today, with 67 being positive for SARS-CoV2; this is a positivity rate of 26.6% today.

They are distributed as follows: Corozal – 2 (1 Libertad, 1 Sarteneja); Orange Walk – 1 Douglas; Belize – 11 (7 City, 3 Ladyville, 1 from Concepcion CZ); Cayo – 23 (9 Belmopan, 5 San Ignacio, 3 San Antonio, 2 Camalote, 1 Santa Familia, 1 Armenia, 1 Barton Creek, 1 from OW Town).

Stann Creek – 18 (5 Independence, 1 Santa Cruz, 2 Santa Rosa, 1 San Juan, 1 San Isidro, 1 Silk Grass, 1 Hope Creek, 5 from Bella Vista TOL, 1 from Trio TOL); and Toledo – 12 (7 Punta Gorda, 1 Bella Vista, 1 Hicattee, 1 San Antonio, 1 Bladden, 1 from Hattieville BZ).

The 4 more deaths from the Corozal District are comprised of 3 males and one female. Their ages range from 43 to 72 years. Our case fatality rate is now at 2.3%.

Confirmed cases stand at 5, 249, and deaths at 120, as of today, Monday.

A record number of COVID-19-related deaths, mostly of senior citizens, have been recorded since our last update. Twenty-two persons have died over the past 6 days (not counting the 4 deaths that were reported today, Monday) taking the death toll to 116 as of Sunday, November 22, 2020, which amounts to a fatality rate of 2.2 %.

The Office of the Director of Health Services is calling on all citizens to take special precautions to protect elderly family members, since most recorded deaths being seen recently are of senior citizens.

On November 17, two deaths were recorded — a female in her 50’s from Orange Walk, and a man in his 70’s from Belmopan who also died as a result of COVID-19 complications.

Four deaths were recorded on November 18, all men. Three of these men were in their 80’s, and were from Calcutta, Benque Viejo, and Independence respectively. One man in his 90’s from Valley Community also died.

The two deaths recorded on November 19 were of a man in his 80’s from Santa Cruz, Orange Walk who died at home (reports are that he did not seek any medical attention); and a female in her 70’s from Duck Run, who also died as a result of COVID-19.

On November 20, 5 deaths were recorded. Three of those five persons were men from Corozal. Two of them were in their 60’s — one from Concepcion and the other from Corozal Town, and the other was a man in his 70’s from San Narciso. The other two fatalities were persons from Orange Walk — a female person in her 90’s and a man in his 50’s.

Five deaths were also recorded on November 21 — three women and two men. Three of these persons died while undergoing treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital’s Covid-19 Unit and the other two died at the Northern Regional Hospital.

On November 22, four deaths were recorded. Two of these deaths occurred at the KHMH Covid-19 Unit. One of these persons who passed away in the unit was a man in his 60’s, from Corozal, and the other was a female from Cayo. The two other persons who died was a female in her 70s from Xaibe, who passed away at the Corozal Community Hospital, and a man in his 60s who died in the Western Regional Hospital.

Recent data from the Office of the Director of Health Services has indicated a total of 5,182 confirmed cases, 2,225 of which are active cases, while 2,842 infected persons have recovered and, as previously mentioned, 116 persons have died.

On November 17, 37 new positive cases were recorded after testing was done on a batch of 166 samples. In Corozal, 5 new cases were recorded; 11 were found in Orange Walk; 9 in Belize; 11 in Cayo, and 1 in Toledo.

Data from November 18 revealed 38 new cases that were found in a batch of 164 samples. In Corozal, 1 new case was found, while 14 new cases were found in Orange Walk. In the Belize District, 11 new cases were found and in Cayo, 7. Four new cases were recorded in Stann Creek and 1 in Toledo.

On November 19, 323 samples were processed and 60 reactive cases were found — 1 in Corozal, 15 in Orange Walk, 15 in Belize, and 26 in Cayo. Three cases were recorded in Stann Creek.

Thirty-eight new cases were found on November 20 from a batch of 119 samples, and 54 new cases were identified on November 21.

On November 22, 73 positive cases were identified from a batch of 254 samples. Thirty-two (32) of these new cases were found in Cayo, 17 in Orange Walk, 12 in Toledo, and 11 in Belize. One new case was found in Corozal.
