Cricket Corner: Western Eagles puts away Wicked 11

SportsCricket Corner: Western Eagles puts away Wicked 11

BELIZE CITY, Wed. July 13, 2016–Hello to all cricket players, fans and families! Thanks to this year’s sponsors,Belikin and Smart, under the auspices of the Belize National Cricket Association, the Harrison Parks Competition playoffs continued over the weekend, with Easy Does It going up against Sunrise at Rancho Dolores, and Wicked11 up against Western Eagles in Lemonal.

In the game at Rancho, Easy Does It took to bat first. At the fall of the first wicket and a score of 28,the game had to be stopped due to heavy rain. That game will continue, hopefully, on Sunday, the 17th, at the same venue.

The game for the day was at Lemonal between Western Eagles of Rancho Dolores andWicked11 of Flowers Bank. These two teams are tied. Today one, advances to the semifinals, the other will, well, maybe just watch other teams continue to do battle.

The Wicked11 boys arrived first, then the Eagles. When the Eagles players took a look at the field, they said that the condition of the field was not in anyway prepared for any playoff game. The Wicked11 team was saying,”We are ready to play.”The captain of the Eagles said that his team will not play on the field, because nothing was done to clean or cut it.  He, the captain of Eagles, had cleaned and had the Rancho pitch properly ready for the Sunrise and Easy Does It playoff game. It was believed that the Easy Boys captain would have done the same at Lemonal. Well, it was not done.

After a long while on his phone theWestern Eagles’ captain decided to play under some rules.  But, while the captain was on his phone, a few of his players had left the area. After the decision, he tried to get his team together, but only got 9 players. Well, the Wicked ones felt this is their game, as 11 players are needed to make a full team.

Wicked 11 won the toss, and decided to bat, taking advantage of the situation. Captain Sutherland of Eagles, realizing this, knows he has to put up a fight. With his strong and excellent, experienced bowling, in no time at all, Wicked11 batsmen were out for 87 runs. Sutherland took 5 wickets, followed by Jermaine Pook with 2. For Wicked11, Jarvis Robinson top scored with 22, runs and Cordell Robinson with 21.

After lunch break, Wicked11 team took the field in high hopes of putting away the Eagles. With the strong batting of young Jarod Pakeman, and so clever Jude Joseph, who top scored with 18 and 15, respectively, at the fall of 8 wickets, the Eagles won, sending Wicked11 to rest until next season. Keon Robinson took 4 of Eagles’ wickets.

All three games (in the series) were games played at its best.Team Wicked11, congrats for playing and reaching thus far! Better luck next time!

Western Eagles now plays Excellence on Saturday, July 16, at Rancho Dolores in the first of a home and away, best of three in the semifinals.

For Western Eagles, the games now only become tougher, so that your playing and that of the other team will thus far need to polish up.

To all team players, as I leave you with your style of performing, let me refresh your so forgetful minds:RESPECT ONE AND ALL!The person you insult or lose respect for, you might one day need his/her hand in friendship for whatever the reason.

I love and respect you all. Have a great weekend!
