Dangriga home team BDF brings PLB Belikin Cup playoff to the Carl Ramos Stadium next week Saturday night

High school football

The Dangriga Zone secondary school football tournament started on Sunday, January 13, at the Carl Ramos Stadium with Ecumenical and Delille Academy meeting in both male and female. In the female game, Delille Academy won over Ecumenical, 2-nil; both goals were scored by Quinaya Caliz. In the male game, it was again Delille Academy over Ecumenical, this time by a 2-1 score. Clint Logan and Brandon Flores shook the net for Delille, while Kyle Valerio scored for Ecumenical.

The tournament was scheduled to continue yesterday, Wednesday, with Anri vs Ecumenical in both male and female, but the games were postponed due to weather conditions. These will be back matches.

The tournament will now follow its normal schedule on Friday, January 17, at 2:30 p.m. with Delille Academy vs ANRI, the female game being at 2:30 p.m., followed by the males.

On Monday, January 20, it is back to the high school rivalry in the second round of the tournament, as it will be Delille Academy vs Ecumenical in both male and female.

Both the Regional and the Nationals will be here in Dangriga inside the Carl Ramos Stadium. Delille Academy will host the Regional, and Ecumenical will host the Nationals.

Primary school football

The primary school national football tournament, which was called off last weekend because of rain, will take place this Friday, January 17, at the MCC Grounds in Belize City. Representing the Stann Creek District will be Georgetown’s Richard Quinn females and Dangriga’s Sacred Heart Primary males.

SCFA 1st Division football

The Stann Creek Football Association (SCFA) Old Master & Paul’s Guest House 1st Division Football Tournament had Week 2 of the quarterfinal playoffs on Friday night, January 10. (In Week 1 of the quarterfinals, Hope Creek Pumas dropped Wagiya, 4-1; and Southside also drilled New Site, 4-1.) In the first Week 2 quarterfinal on Friday, Green Gold clipped Pomona United, 2-1, with 2 goals from Hugo Franco, both penalties; while Otis Smith (35’) scored for Pomona. And in the nightcap, it was Benguche and Silk Grass, 1-1, in regulation. Allen Brooks (22’) put Silk Grass in front, but Byron Chavez (61’) equalized for Benguche. The game went into overtime and remained tied at 1-1; and in the penalty shootout, it was Silk Grass over Benguche, 4-3.

Green Gold and Silk Grass now advance to the semifinals, where they face each other to determine who advances to the finals.

The SCFA met with the four semifinal teams, and it was agreed to play the semifinal games on Friday, January 24, instead of January 17. This is due to the Inter-District tournament in which Hope Creek Pumas is also participating. The finals will then be held the following Friday, January 31.
