Boys & Girls football

The Dangriga Boys & Girls Football Club friendly matches that were postponed over the weekend due to weather conditions will now be played this Sunday, September 8, at the Carl Ramos Stadium, starting at 10:00 a.m. before the First Division Marathon. Once again, the first game will be Montise U-12 vs Hopkins U-12; second game is Umadagu U-12 vs Pomona U-12; and the third game, Umadagu U-17 vs Pomona U-17.

Also, the Stann Creek District First Division Marathon that was previously scheduled for over the weekend, and was postponed also because of rain, will now get under way this Sunday at the Carl Ramos Stadium, starting at 12:00 midday. Prizes remain the same: 1st prize $500.00, 2nd place $250.00, and 3rd $125.00. All teams should be at the Carl Ramos Stadium by 11:30 a.m.

Wamule U-23 basketball

Week 7 of the Wamule U-23 “King of the Court” Basketball Tournament, which will be the final week of the regular season, was also postponed last Saturday because of rain, and will now be played this Saturday, September 7, at the Ecumenical Basketball Auditorium at 9:00 a.m. All teams should be at Ecumenical at 8:30 a.m.

Next week Saturday will be the Top Six playoff. Ghans is the only team at this moment that is already in the Top Six playoff. The final week of regular season this Saturday will tell who will be the next 5 teams.

Amateur cycling

The Dangriga Amateur Cycling Association’s Back to School Cycling Classic, which was a big success, took place on Sunday from Ilagulei Sports Bar to Hopkins junction and back, and was won by Carl Wallen from Placencia. He also won all station prizes going and coming throughout this race. In 2nd place was Regal Velasquez; 3rd was Marlo Polanco from Hopkins; 4th Ashton Mobutu; 5th Ernie Flowers from Gales Point Manatee; 6th Victor Hernandez; and 7th was Dangriga’s young 13-year up-and-coming cyclist, Damian Usher.

The Dangriga Amateur Cycling Association would like to remind all cyclists that the next big race coming up will be the annual Kubuli Benguche Park Fest Cycling Classic on October 13.

CPBL 6-A-Side Football

Three games were played on Sunday at the Pomona New Site Football Field in Week 4 of the CPBL 6-A-Side Football Tournament. In game 1, Pomona United dropped Real Juventud, 3-1, with goals from Shane Gentle, Mario Morales and Otis Smith. Game 2 saw Pomona Jaguars shutting out Burial Ground Warriors, 3-0, with a goal apiece from Arlon Castley, Shandel Casey and Samir Menendez. And in game 3, it was Wagierale, 2-1, over Valley Shatters. Octavio Ramirez and Terrence Murillo shook the net for Wagierale, while Joseph Brooks tallied for Shatters.

The present standings have Pomona Jaguars with 12 pts; Pomona United 9 pts; Real Juventud 4 pts; Wagierale 3 pts; Valley Shatters 2 pts; and Burial Ground Warriors 1 pt.

Leading scorers are Shane Gentle of Pomona United and Samir Menendez of Pomona Jaguars, who are tied with 4 goals each.

Pomona Marathon on 10th

The Pomona Village Council, along with the Pomona Water Board, will be hosting a Grand Football Marathon for the September celebrations on September 10 at the Pomona New Site Football Field. The Marathon is set to start at 9:00 a.m. Registration per team is only $30.00. First place gets $500.00; 2nd $300.00; and 3rd $100.00

Another pre-season Friendly on Friday

The BDF football squad will be playing another PLB pre-season Friendly this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against Green Gold FC at the Carl Ramos Stadium.
