Devyn Major of the G-Flow team outsprinted Keith Enright of the Valvoline team in the final 50 yards from the Belcan Bridge to the finish line to win the 2025 KREM New Year’s Junior Cycling Classic in front of the Belize City Civic Center in the rain on Wednesday morning, January 1.
Major claimed the $1,000 first prize and a round trip to the USA, along with the champion’s trophy; while Enright had to be content with the $300 2nd prize and trophy. Tamron Morris of the Griga Cycling team took the $200 3rd prize.
Ayden Busano had won the first station prize at the Crooked Tree roundabout, and Major won a $50 prize of meat at the junction of the old Northern Highway in Sandhill Village. Enright won a similar prize at the entrance to Maxboro, and Morris took over the pace to win the next $50 prize of meat at the Burrell Boom junction. Enright jockeyed for the lead to take the next prize at Los Lagos.
Major won the sprint for the $300 station prize at Mile 9 ½, and Enright would take the next $125 prize at the entrance to Vista Del Mar. Major won a gift basket at the Haulover Bridge, and Enright took the lead to win the next 2 prizes passing Grace Kennedy Ltd. and at the first roundabout to the City. Morris then took over the pace to win a $200 prize at the Pallotti overpass, before Enright surged ahead as they approached the BelCan Bridge, only to succumb in the final sprint to the finish, as Devyn Major took the big prize.
