BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Nov. 26, 2020– A dollar van cab driver became a victim of the resurgent gun violence in the Lake Independence community on the evening of Wednesday, November 25.

At around 3:35 p.m., Lynroy Kandie Longsworth, 35, was on the job, transporting passengers on Mahogany Street in the direction of the Charles Bartlett Hyde building, when he made a stop at the corner of Periwinkle Street in order for a passenger to disembark.

It was at this point that an unidentified gunman came from Periwinkle Street, stood in front of the van and fired multiple shots at Longsworth, fatally injuring him.

A short time later, police visited JB Hardware, located on Mahogany Street, where they found that the grey cab van had collided with a white car that was parked on the left side of the street.

Inside the van, police found Longsworth’s bullet-riddled body.

The spate of gun violence in the Lake Independence community continues unabated, despite the fact that Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has said that additional measures would be put in place to stem the recent resurgence of gang war in that community.
