Double murder in Santa Elena

GeneralDouble murder in Santa Elena

SANTA ELENA, Cayo District, Wed. Sept. 2, 2020– Two men of the Trenchtown area of Santa Elena — Joshua Villas, 28, a mechanic, and Anthony Tzul, 21, a laborer — were shot to death by persons who are as yet unidentified.

At about 10:00 Monday night, Villas was sleeping in his house, along with his wife and child, when two men went into his yard and shouted for him.

When Villas got up and went outside to see what the men wanted, an unknown gunman fired about 8 times at him. Villas was shot in the head, chest and abdomen, and he died immediately in his yard near his door.

Reliable information to us is that the killers then went into the home of Tzul, who lived in the same yard with Villas. Tzul was in his house when the two men entered. They shot him about 7 times, and they then escaped out of the area.

Villas’ wife subsequently ran out of their house and saw Villas on the ground, and it was at that point that Tzul was called upon for help, but when police arrived, they found him in his house in pools of blood. Police took him the hospital along with Villas, who was declared dead on arrival.

Tzul was admitted in a critical condition, but died shortly after.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that police were hoping that Tzul would recover so that they could talk to him to try to shed some light on what may have caused the shooting, and to see if perhaps it had been drug-related.

Police are now finding it difficult to ascertain why Tzul and Villas were murdered so callously.
