Every country practices its own system of democracy. However, many have the habit of mentioning that word in a loose way, while there are others who use their influence of power, both military and economic, so that other countries implement their system of democracy. This is something that is not just, because the people or the community of each country have the freedom, or should have the freedom, to live under the democratic system that best suits them or that best suits their cultural and religious system. However, it has been discussed, but without taking into account that democracy is a very broad word. We can even call money laundering democracy. Why not? It is democratic, if the people require it or practice it. Remember that corruption is not only in the hands of government officials, but corruption is a whole culture that has been practiced among the population or certain populations.

In this, I wonder if there is a record in Belize about people who receive money to do a job on behalf of another country. Take, for example, the foreign influence agencies in our country. If I’m not mistaken, I think there is a law in the United States where these people or companies or non-governmental organizations have to register with the government to make their activity known in that country. The money they receive from other countries for any activity they do within the United States must be registered at the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). I do not know if there is such a law here in Belize, and if there is, well, we would greatly appreciate if those who know about it make it public, since there are many laws, regulations, in this country, which we, citizens, know absolutely nothing about.

We are ignorant of what they are, not only the Constitution, but the laws in general. Why? Because they didn’t teach us. The other topic they have not taught us is the true history of this country. Anyway, my point is that, how is it possible that there are non-governmental organizations, such as individuals who receive money from other countries, and it is not reported, that is, an individual could earn a certain amount of money, but not more than that. For example, we have here those who earn 7 thousand dollars a month, which we know about. But if they are earning 50 thousand a month, what is that money for? For what do they use it? There is no record, and that is considered as corruption. That amount of money and all the money that comes in to pay individuals, non-governmental organizations, must be registered.

Now, we have been seeing and hearing that the government reports the money and loans that it receives and the donations that other countries give them, and for what it is going to be used and is used, and now it is up to the opposition or any other person to demand clear accounts. But that is a very different matter from the one I want to mention. It is time right now, since the reform of the Constitution is underway, that we implement a law where all money that comes from abroad for any activity within the country must be reported. We have agencies of foreign influence in this country that seek or work for their country. This type of movement is quite broad, since it has an infinite number of foreign interests within a country. Also, we have the problem that, although we didn’t want it to be like that, Belize, that is, they took Belize as a transit for illegal activities. And why not? I’m not saying I have the evidence, but why not? Those from other countries can use money from illegal activity to invest in the interests that suit them. It is difficult to know, to investigate, that is, we ordinary citizens cannot investigate it. That already corresponds to the corresponding authorities, therefore, the importance of a law that can interfere in any illegal activity that uses, not only cash, but other ways to influence the country’s affairs. If it were for tourism, well, I don’t think there are many people in Belize who have the money to travel to other countries as tourists, that is, a grand tourism can’t leave Belize but a grand tourism can come to Belize from different parts of the world, and there are people who need to invest and many of those investments could be ill-gotten money in different ways, and that is where I think a government organization or a government institution should look to control what would harm us as a country

Someone told me that a document was signed in which a foreign individual had bought a house and land from another person for 2 million US dollars in cash. I wonder: how is it possible that this money could enter Belize if the information is true, since it is assumed that Belize does not have American dollars. If not, what does it need, that is, like the Central Bank or other commercial banks? How can a person get 2 million US dollars in cash in Belize?
