SAN PEDRO TOWN, Ambergris Caye, Fri. Jan. 20, 2023

Joy Quale, 76, a Belizean-American residing in the Serenity Shores community of San Pedro Town, lost her life in a freak accident while using the elevator at the Serenity Shores Hotel, North Ambergis Caye.

According to reports, at around 12:50 p.m. on Friday afternoon, January 20, Quale was descending from the fourth floor to the first floor in the elevator, when the elevator chain snapped, which caused the elevator to plunge at an accelerated pace to the ground level. As a result, Quale was injured in the back and head, in addition to receiving bruises to her body.

She was rushed to the Ambergris Hopes Clinic, then was transferred to the Belize Specialist Clinic, where she passed away from her injuries while receiving treatment.
