With the BPFL?s RFG Insurance Company Cup Tournament season opening marathon only days away, barring another postponement, many teams are wheeling and dealing with big name athletes for a shot at the tournament championship trophy. At a BPFL General Assembly meeting held last night, fourteen teams confirmed participation in the upcoming season.

Usher, has reportedly left the Calcutta Bulls for the expansion FC Belize that has former Kulture Yabra and San Pedro Seahawks? head coach, Marvin Ottley, taking over the head coaching job and is also a member of the new franchise shareholders, headed by well-known attorney Lionel Welch as President, Albert Hoare as Vice President, along with Belize City Councilman Linsford Castillo as the major stakeholders in the rookie franchise.
Some big names that will be playing for the new Belize City team are Tyrone ?T-Bone? Muschamp and Daniel Thomas, along with a promising rookie in the big leagues – Shannon Flowers, who played for the Brown Bombers and the Belize National U-21 squad, plus Thedran Reid, who terrorized goalkeepers in the ?B? League.
Missing last season?s opportunity to go to the Big Dance seems to be a sore subject for the San Pedro Seahawks. In an attempt to avoid history repeating itself, they are close to signing deals with some prominent names in the league to bolster their chances of making it.
It has been confirmed that defending champions Juventus have lost their player/manager Charlie Slusher to the Seahawks. Slusher is being joined by his championship teammates Raul Celiz, Oliver ?Lionheart? and Chris Hendricks, former Sagitun Brazilian midfielder Marcos ?McGoo? Souto, Elroy ?Bibb? Kuylen who was released by Griga?s New Site Erei, and Aaron ?Taz? Nolberto. The new Seahawks will be teaming up with the likes of Jarbi Alvarez and Landy Pinelo.
Calcutta Bulls are staying with most of their team, except for goalkeeper Giovanni Rodriguez, who at press time hasn?t re-signed or displayed any interest in staying between the sticks for the Bulls. However, Calcutta picked up Prodigal Son, Merlin Tek, who started off last season with his hometown team but left for greener pastures a few miles south in Orange Walk Town to run with Juventus. Eduardo ?El Gigante? Perez, Derwin Ennis and veteran Estevan Hall are reportedly also returning to try and keep the ?Mad Bull Feeva? burning in the North.

Group ?A? consists of Belize FC, Benque Viejo DC United, Cayo Avengers, Hankook Verdes, Kremandala FC., Placencia Pirates and Wagiya FC. Zone ?B? has Belmopan FC, BOCA FC, New Site Erei, Juventus, San Pedro Seahawks and a yet to be named franchise headed by former Sagitun superstar Hilly Muschamp. Who will be the ?Bamboo Horse??
