Homestanding EZ Griga Conquerors FC were held by the Terror Squad FC of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye to a scoreless draw in the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) finals Game 1 at the Carl Ramos Stadium on Saturday night, August 17.

Kaeyden Shay Bowen and Kenroy Wagner led the Terror Squad’s offensive supported by Akeem Locke and Englebert Samuels on the wings and Henry Bejerano and Troy Williams at midfield. Veterans Jacinto Bermudez and Gilbert Swazo anchored the host’s defense along with Tyrique Castillo and Tyrone Hernandez. Bowen had the chance of an early goal, but goalkeeper Eddy Perez beat him to the ball, and Bowen’s best shot sailed over the crossbar.

Down at the other end Aaron Estero and Daijon Daniels led the Griga attacks, with the help of Ernesto Flores and Leonardo Valdez on the wings, and Kovat Nicolas and Russel Castillo at midfield. They won several corner kicks, but Terror Squad’s defenders, Donell Arzu, Devon Makin, Victor Morales and Karon Jimenez shut them down.

The match became increasingly physical as both sides pressed for the win, and Flores, Nicolas and Bermudez limped off the field to be replaced by Waymark Alvarez, Erwin Flores and Trevor Castillo. Angel Burke, Armando Pop and Ryan Gonzalez reinforced the visitors’ defense to help goalkeeper Isaul Coba keep a clean slate.

The draw was in effect a victory for the Terror Squad, who are confident of winning the championship in front of their home fans when they host the Griga Conquerors for the return match at the Ambergris Stadium on Saturday night, August 24.
