BPFL chairman says FFB meeting was illegal
We sent an email from the sports desk today to BPFL chairman Sergio Chuc requesting some information on the FFB “elections” meeting on Saturday, December 18, at its Football Academy in Belmopan. The text of our email and his prompt reply are below.
Amandala: “Could you tell us if your candidacy was accepted at the FFB Congress meeting? Were you allowed in the meeting, and was your name allowed as a candidate? Who represented Concacaf or Uncaf at the meeting? I understand that nobody from the Sports Council or the Olympic Committee attended. The FFB finally sent us a press release, but all it says is that their slate was elected.”
BPFL Chairman, Sergio Chuc: “My candidacy was refused since the 6th of December. That was the date they wrote to me indicating that my nomination was rejected. Thereafter, I wrote to them through the BPFL twice, asking them to set up an Arbitration Tribunal, as provided by the FFB statutes, to listen to our differences concerning the interpretation of the statutes on the nomination process. Our letter was not even acknowledged as sent.
“Mr. Welch and I were allowed into the meeting on the basis that I am the chair of BPFL, and he is an Executive Member. Nobody from the NSC or the Olympic Committee showed up to conduct the endorsement. Secretary General Margaruite Hulse continued with the meeting, even after the objection of BPFL representatives that the meeting was illegal. Mr. Victor Hugo Estrada from Uncaf was an observer.”
