FFB introduces new U-19 National Team player, Glenford Anthony Gentle III

SportsFFB introduces new U-19 National Team player, Glenford Anthony Gentle III

BELIZE CITY, Wed. Jan. 20, 2021– The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) welcomes Glenford Anthony Gentle III to the U19 National Team.

Glenford was born on July 15, 2002, in Dangriga to former national team player Glenford A. Gentle, Jr. and Ericka Vanessa Ruiz. At the young age of 8, he relocated to New York with his father and stepmother.

While in New York, Glenford joined the Kickers Jr. Soccer Club and still remains a part of that team in the U19 selection. Kickers Soccer Club was named division champions for the Long Island Junior Soccer League in November of 2020. Furthermore, Glenford was also a part of his high school (Martin Van Buren High School) varsity soccer team through his sophomore & junior year, finishing the sophomore season with 12 goals and 6 assists, and his junior year with 13 goals and 7 assists, earning the Most Goals title in the division. Currently, Glenford is playing with Albertson Susa Club (U18 & U19), which is an academy based in Long Island, and will be participating in the Elite Club National League (ECNL) in March 2021.

Glenford shared that he is grateful to be a part of the FFB U19 National Team, and is excited to see what the future has in store for him.

(AMANDALA Sports Ed. Note: With all local competitive sporting activity on hold due to Covid-19 restrictions, Belize’s participation in regional tournaments may depend heavily on foreign based players who are better able to remain sharp in active competitions in their particular countries of residence. Belize is in Group E along with Haiti, Nicaragua, St. Lucia and Turks & Caicos Islands in upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers, with our first match against Haiti scheduled for March 25, 2021. Belize was already knocked out of the Concacaf U-20 Qualifiers last year, but “goal getters” being a highly sought commodity, it is possible that the FFB may seek to activate young Glenford Gentle III in its upcoming “A” Team qualifiers, although his “Elite Club National League” games in the USA are also in March 2021.)
