FFB launches tentative date for restart of competitions

SportsFFB launches tentative date for restart of competitions

BELMOPAN, Fri. July 16, 2021– It’s been a long wait but we are very excited for the restart of competitions and the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) is making final preparations for the restart of the game. We remain hopeful that the Government of Belize will soon allow for the restart of contact sports and we need to ensure we are all ready.

The FFB takes this opportunity to invite clubs to register their teams in the U13, U15M, U17M, U15F and U17F categories for the upcoming competitions which are likely to commence in August 2021. Registration can be done via the regional offices on a first come first served basis due to the limited number of spaces available as a result of the Covid-19 regulations. We applaud those clubs that took the initiative to register early and extend an invitation to those that are interested in participating to do so.

The competitions will be played under the established FFB Covid-19 regulation\protocol and under the guidelines from the Ministry of Health. Competitions will be also played without fans in the first instance until otherwise indicated by the Ministry of Health.

Tentative dates are as follows: Amateur Competitions – August 1st; Youth Competitions – August 1st; NAWL – August 7th; Top League – August 28th.

The Football Federation of Belize encourages our fans, football players and their families to get vaccinated. “Before you relax Get Vax”

– press release –

(AMANDALA Sports Ed. Note: A few observations and questions – After such a long wait, we do seem to be in a rush to get the amateurs started; or have there been unannounced preparations taking place before public invitations to teams were given? “First come first serve” and “limited number of spaces” does not sound like we are about encouraging “football for all.” Without fans, is it to be understood that FIFA funds are sponsoring the costs of the upcoming tournaments? And what is the “Top League”? Is that a new name for the Premier League of Belize, or a new league being launched by the FFB?)
