Fisherman remanded on murder charge for death of former mayor Zenaida Moya’s brother

CrimeFisherman remanded on murder charge for death of former mayor Zenaida Moya’s brother

A Belize City fisherman from the Conch Shell Bay Fish Market was arrested and charged with murder after Richard Ysaguirre, 50, a brother of former two-term Belize City mayor Zenaida Moya, died after allegedly being involved in a fight with the accused.

This morning, fisherman James Edward Rhaburn, 41, and his attorney, Dickie Bradley, appeared in the courtroom of Magistrate Dale Cayetano, who arraigned Rhaburn on one count of murder for the unlawful death of Michael Richard Ysaguirre, who died suddenly on Saturday, June 28.

After reading the charge, Cayetano asked Rhaburn if he understood the charge. Rhaburn replied that he did.

Cayetano explained to him that he did not have to enter a plea, because the matter is an indictable one and will be heard in the Supreme Court.

Cayetano remanded Rhaburn to prison until his next court appearance on September 15.

Friends of Rhaburn, who is a well-known personality at the fish market, were in court to support him, while a relative of the deceased was also present for the arraignment of the man police believe caused the death of their brother.

Ysaguirre was injured in the chest area with what is believed to be a fiberglass rod. The autopsy on his body confirmed that his cause of death was blunt force trauma to the chest area.

Michael Richard Ysaguirre was a single man who had no children. He lived with his mother on Sibun Street.
