PUNTA GORDA, Toledo District, Sat. Nov. 13, 2021 — On Saturday morning, November 13, 2021, the partially decomposed body of 26-year-old Jovan Cal Williams was found in the Voice of America (VOA) area of Punta Gorda Town.

Earlier in the week, Williams was reported missing. He was last seen in a blue t-shirt heading out to socialize with some friends on Tuesday, November 9. His family and friends had been asking, via their social media accounts, for the public to assist them by providing any credible information that could have indicated his whereabouts.

Based on intelligence they gathered, police officers were led to the VOA area, where they found a 9-millimeter expended shell, Williams’ bicycle and a blue t-shirt that Williams was last seen wearing. Williams’ belongings were subsequently identified by his mother.

When they further searched the area, the officers found a trail of blood which led them to an area where the soil had been disturbed. His body was found in the recently dug grave, and after it was recovered and inspected, police determined that he had been shot in the abdomen. The trail of blood has led Williams’ family to believe that he had been chased by his assailants.

The family believes, based on the evidence gathered, that he was attacked by two men whom he met in the Punta Gorda cemetery and that after they stabbed him, he attempted to run away for the sake of his life. His sister, Arianne Williams, stated, “We got to understand that he left home Tuesday night to meet two guys in the cemetery, where I believe they stab him, and he end up escaping from them — fearing for his life.”

“I know it was hell of a chase, because he’s a runner,” continued his sister. Jovan Cal Williams was an avid football player and a player on FC Talla Estrellas, who was known for his endurance and speed.

His sister further noted that he was “humble and always about the money, always finding ways to make ends work. Aside from working, he like dress up and always about his son.” He has now left behind that one-year-old son.

The Police Department continues to investigate this latest murder. No suspects have yet been detained, but it is believed that two suspects are being sought by the police. A post-mortem exam of Williams’ body is yet to be conducted.

Police are asking anyone with information to anonymously report what they know to the Crime Stoppers Belize via its hotline, 922, or its P3 app at www.P3tips.com; or by making a report at the nearest police station.
