BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Mar. 11, 2021– In 2015 the long-time General Manager of La Inmaculada Credit Union, Yolanda Gomez, was placed on administrative leave and later fired after the board of directors of the credit union revealed, after conducting an investigation, that she had failed to comply with certain procedures and had made some controversial decisions during her tenure as General Manager.

Her dismissal triggered a wrongful termination suit on her end against her former employer, which also initiated a lawsuit, claiming damages amounting to upward of $400,000.

On Thursday, the credit union informed its employees that the case had concluded and that the former GM was ordered to pay $436,906.34 in damages and legal costs for the losses suffered by La Inmaculada Credit Union under her management.
The judgment was handed down by Acting Chief Justice Michelle Arana, who also ruled that the credit union did not wrongfully terminate Gomez from her former position and is not liable for any costs or damages related to her suit.
