SportsGriga Conquerors are National Bank of Belize Amateur Interdistrict Champions 2022

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 8, 2022 Reminiscent of their dominance in Interdistrict football with Queenspark Rangers of the 1960s and Stann Creek Selection of the 1970s, the Stann Creek District’s Griga Conquerors FC emerged as National Bank of Belize Interdistrict Champions (NBBAIC) 2022 on Saturday, August 6, at the FFB Stadium where they prevailed, 3-1, in the championship match against

Atletico FC of Belmopan.
A good turnout of fans braved

intermittent showers in a match dominated by the aggressive attacking play of Griga Conquerors who were led by two national team veterans, Harrison “Cafu” Roches in the forward line, and Evan Mariano anchoring the defense. Cafu slammed in the first goal off a centering pass at the 36th minute, and young midfielder Curtis Valerio (47’ & 67’) added two more to make it a commanding 3-nil lead, before Atletico’s Sean Caliz’ (90+’) goal in injury time avoided the shutout. The game was shown live on TNC 10.

Congratulations to NBBAIC 2022 Champions, Griga Conquerors FC; and Sub- Champions, Atletico FC. In the trophy ceremony following the match, individual awards for the tournament were also announced. Individual Awards: Best Coach – Kareem Haylock (Griga Conquerors); Fair Play Award – Progresso FC; Best Goalkeeper – Ryan Saravia
(Griga Conquerors); Best Defense – Evan Mariano (Griga Conquerors); Most Goals – Wilfredo Galvez (Atletico FC); MVP – Curtis Valerio (Griga Conquerors); Best Forward Harrison Roches (Griga Conquerors); and Best Midfielder – Clint Logan (Griga Conquerors).
