After each registering a 3-2 win in the first leg of the semifinals in the National Bank of Belize Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NBBAIC) 2022, both Griga Conquerors FC of Dangriga and Atletico FC of Belmopan completed their semifinal series with victories this past Sunday, July 31, to set up this coming weekend’s knockout championship final.
With a 4:30 p.m. kickoff time at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Sunday, Dajon Daniel (22’) scored the only goal of the match, to give Griga Conquerors FC the 1-0 win over Progresso FC from Orange Walk, which resulted in a 4-2 aggregate victory in the series for Griga Conquerors.
Then at 5:00 p.m. the same day, the ball started rolling at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro, where San Pedro’s Conquerors FC would try to overcome their 3-2 loss in the first leg of the semifinals to visiting Atletico FC from Belmopan. A late goal from each side made it 1-1 at the half; but Atletico got 2 more goals in second half to secure the 3-1 victory, and 6-3 aggregate win over Conquerors. Atletico got a goal each from Tyriq Ciego (44’), Wilfredo Galvez (64’) and Korey Gomez (88’); while the lone goal for Conquerors was by Rayjan Jones (45+’).
Top goal scorer so far in the tournament is Atletico’s Wilfredo Galvez with 10 goals.
The Grand Finale, a one-match affair, takes place this weekend in Belmopan.
