Pallotti’s #11 Jasha Bermudez scored 6 goals in their 8-0 win

The Gwen Lizarraga and St. Catherine Academy (SCA) girls are leading the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) football tournament which kicked off at the Marion Jones Sports Complex last Thursday afternoon, January 16, and continued on Saturday and Wednesday evening, January 18 & 22.
Kenya Gabourel’s hat trick (24’, 25’ & 50’) led the defending champions, Gwen Liz, to a 4-1 victory over the 2023 champions, Wesley College. Primilee Hope (4’) had opened the scoring for Gwen Liz. Wesley’s Clayian Swazo (9’) got on the scoreboard, when her free kick from a set piece was deflected by Gwen Liz defender Lakisha Requeña inadvertently into the net: 4-1 final.
The Edward P. Yorke High School girls enjoyed their first win, 3-1, over the Anglican Cathedral College (ACC) girls on Saturday morning, led by Jeniyah Welch’s brace (29’ & PK 33’). Shamie Meighan (62’) added a 3rd goal. Only Jayla Smith scored a consolation goal for ACC.
The St. Catherine Academy girls also enjoyed a 3-1 win over the Pallotti Gators on Saturday, with goals by Davae McCaulay (25’), Evelyn Noble (38’) and Tatiana Martinez (PK 44’) scored a penalty. Central American CODICADER bronze medalist Jasha Bermudez struck first for Pallotti.
Jasha Bermudez scored a double hat trick (8’, 9’, 28’, 37’, 47’ & 67’) in the Gators’ 8-0 romp over the ACC girls on Wednesday evening. Neylanie Noralez (13’) scored the 3rd goal, and Demika Jones (PK 56’) converted a penalty.
