Hankook Verdes takes revenge on Belmopan Bandits

SportsHankook Verdes takes revenge on Belmopan Bandits

Sunday?s game at the Norman Broaster, was the complete opposite of what happened back in week 1. Despite outplaying Bandits in the first half, Verdes had only a 1-nil advantage from a penalty kick conversion by Jose Lara in the 4thminute of play. The lead could have easily been 3-0 had Verdes converted on 2 golden opportunities in injury time in the first half. Marlon ?El Matador? Mesa first missed a shot from inside the 6-yard box. Less than a minute later, Anthony ?Keesh? Gonzalez sent a looping header over Bandits? goalkeeper Wilmer Cruz, but Lincoln Wiltshire cleared the ball just before it crossed the goal line.

Going into the second half, Bandits level of play went from grace to grass. Their total collapse in the second half resulted in 4 unanswered goals.

Anthony Gonzales drove down the right side of the Bandits defense and sent a pass to Deris ?Columbia? Benavides who weaved through some heavy traffic and scored in the 54thminute to give Verdes the 2-0 lead. Less than a minute later, with Verdes again on the attack, second half substitute Daniel Jimenez received a pass outside the 18-yard box, beat Wilhelm ?Locho? Coye and proceeded to attack the goal. Jimenez blasted a shot off the far post into the side netting to put Verdes up 3-0. On his first play after being substituted into the game, Orlando Jimenez was cut down inside the 18-yard box and the referee called a penalty. Danny Jimenez made the easy penalty kick conversion top shelf for his second goal of the game. Being down 4-nil, Belmopan got even more careless. In the 89thminute of play, Danny Jimenez sent a pass to his big brother Orlando ?Leech? Jimenez who was wide open. ?Leech? scorched the net from point blank range to score in his debut for Hankook Verdes.

With the 5-nil victory, Verdes is now on a 3-game win streak. Bandits have now lost 2 games in a row and is in a whole heap of trouble. Word on the streets is that players are not working out. What?s up with that?
