TRINIDAD, Orange Walk District, Mon. Aug. 26, 2019– Henry Gideon, 27, a laborer of Trinidad Village who was wanted for robbery, theft and aggravated assault and was on the run from police, was arrested yesterday in Blue Creek as he was trying to leave the country, on his way into Mexico.

Gideon is accused of beating, stabbing and stealing $300 from his grandmother, Fernanda Garcia, 64, of Trinidad.

Gideon was brought to the Orange Walk police station, where he was charged with the offenses and detained pending arraignment at the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court.

The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, August 21, at Fernanda Garcia’s house in Trinidad. Garcia told police that her grandson had asked for $5 to buy drugs earlier, and she had refused to give it to him. She was in her hammock in her house and her grandson was walking around in the house when suddenly, he attacked her.

Gideon jumped on his grandmother and choked her and beat her in the face. He then cut her with a piece of glass, and she became unconscious.

When she revived, she felt blood on her neck and her clothes, and her underwear was torn. Also, $300 had been stolen from her. She checked for her grandson and for his luggage, but he and his luggage were missing.

She then awakened her husband, who was sleeping in another room, and he saw her bleeding and her clothes torn, and their neighbors were alerted. She was then taken to the hospital and a report was made to the police, and some men from the village began to hunt for Gideon.

Garcia was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital, where doctors described the injuries she received as not life-threatening. The village chairlady also accompanied her to the doctor, where she was also checked for possible sexual assault, since the grandson had torn her underwear, but the examination proved that there had been no sexual assault on the grandmother.

Garcia said that Gideon had been living with them for about 2 weeks.

During the regular police press brief held this afternoon, ACP Joseph Myvett said that they are waiting to see if Garcia will bring action against her grandson. Myvett said that Gideon is well known to police.
