Sometime around 12:00 midnight, police say that they found the body of George Lindon ?Fiesta? Lainfiesta, 41, a car washer and resident of Mahogany Street in Lake Independence, lying in the middle of Daly Street near its intersection with Queen Street. Fiesta had what appeared to be a single stab wound in the middle of his back.

In the second stabbing fatality, police say that a jogger along the Marine Parade in the Fort George area stumbled upon the body of a man at about 5:45 a.m. He was later identified as Frankie Flowers, 55, an accountant and former superstar basketball player. He had multiple stab wounds over his upper body. (Flowers, one of the most accurate shooting guards ever in local basketball, starred for Carnation, Incatecu and Belikin Wheels. Known by basketball fans as ?Fadeaway,? he was blazing fast in his prime and a great scorer for his size.)

Police, at this time, have made no arrest yet, and have no suspect(s) for either murder. The reason police believe that the deaths are related is because Lainfiesta was found with Flowers? bicycle.

Police believe that both stabbings may have occurred in the Marine Parade area, and that Lainfiesta may have managed to reach all the way to Queen Street, where they found his body.

A pair of black slippers was found on the cement pavement in the Marine Parade area near Flowers? corpse.

Lainfiesta?s brother, Russell Lainfiesta, told Amandala on Tuesday that he believed his brother was stabbed from behind, the act of a coward. His brother had no enemies, he said, and although he was no saint, they knew of no problem he had with anyone who would have had reason to kill him.

Frankie and George, the two deceased, were close friends, said Frankie?s brother, Brian Flowers. The two would see each other often and were drinking buddies.

Both men were known to be lovers of sports. Lainfiesta was a well-known car washer on Barrack Road and Queen Street. He had no children.

Flowers got his name because the fadeaway jumper was his favorite shot, which, it seemed, he had perfected. He could score from almost any part of the court.

In 1968, he played his second season with the Raiders team as a shooting guard, and not only scored the most points but was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP). He averaged 29 points per game throughout his career. Frankie Flowers scored a career high of 48 points in a game between his team, Belikin Wheels, and Happy Homebuilders in the 1977 senior basketball competition on Bird?s Isle, and that season he was MVP, top scorer and Best Guard.

At the time of his death, Flowers was working as an accounting clerk at Deloitte and Touche on Central American Boulevard.

He and his wife, Agnes Flowers, have three children.
